Our faith is not stagnant! Jesus uses action-oriented language: "Go and make disciples," "Pray like this," "Feed the hungry," "Clothe the naked," "Heal the sick," "Visit those in prison," and "Welcome the stranger" (Matthew 25:34-36). Christianity is more than just a philosophy; it is a mission. This mission is to transform lives and bring God's kingdom (Heaven) to this world through service to our community. Jesus encourages us to take what we learn and the blessings we receive and share them with others.
N.T. Wright teaches that Jesus' plan was not only to get us to heaven, but also to bring heaven to Earth. This is why we pray, "Your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:9-13). The journey begins with each of us, transforming our dead hearts into living ones, and becoming ambassadors of His kingdom by acting like Him.
At CWC, we actively engage in God's mission by trying to live out God's will in Winston as in heaven. We do things like organizing backpack drives for local schoolchildren in need, purchasing Christmas gifts for kids in foster care, and fundraising for mission work in Guyana. We truly are a community on mission! Being on mission invigorates our worship, as we can see God's hand at work in our world, and it deepens our desire to know God more intimately.
